Crowns (Caps)
A crown is a covering that permanently covers the entire tooth surface and restores the tooth to its original size and shape. A crown is recommended when a tooth cannot be restored. Crowns are diagnosed when there are fracture lines or cracks on the tooth, a lot of decay present, severely broken teeth, and tooth that have undergone root canal therapy. The crown is constructed from an impression by a dental laboratory out of porcelain or porcelain fused to metal to match the color of your other teeth.
Composite Fillings
Composite fillings are bonded to your tooth and match the color of your teeth, making this a very popular material. Less tooth structure is removed when the dentist prepares the tooth for a composite filling and may result in a smaller filling than that of an amalgam (silver) filling.
Amalgam Fillings
Amalgam is a mixture of metals that can stand up to heavy chewing and biting. Amalgam fillings are particularly useful for restoring teeth in the back or molar region where the load is the greatest and the silver color filling is less noticeable. This material is generally less expensive, easy to use and very durable.
